OFFICE OF THE MAYOR NORWALK, CONNECTICUT Proclamation
SOUTH NORWALK BRANCH LIBRARY DAY 21st CENTURY FUND June 30, 2004
WHEREAS, The $3.3 million expansion and renovation of the South Norwalk Branch Library has been authorized and construction bidding is about to begin; and
WHEREAS, This Carnegie-style library was built in 1913 and is one of 2,000 libraries built throughout the country by Andrew Carnegie. The original portion of the library will be preserved and this historic building will look magnificent when restored; and
WHEREAS, The renovation will include a new atrium and computer rooms, an expanded children’s library and provide a community room on the upper floor to be used by the public once again as the building is brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act; and
WHEREAS, These renovations will give the library users access to the Internet and computer training opportunities and thereby help bridge the Digital Divide.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEX A. KNOPP, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF NORWALK, CONNECTICUT do hereby proclaim Wednesday, June 30, 2004 as:
SOUTH NORWALK BRANCH LIBRARY DAY21st CENTURY FUND in Norwalk, and, in so doing, ask the community to support efforts towards raising funds for the Library’s 21st Century Fund.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Norwalk to be affixed this 30th day of June, 2004.
